At Pools Unlimited, we refill 20#, 30#, and 40# propane tanks that are commonly used for gas grills, patio heaters and weed burners. We refill them year round during regular retail store hours. The store hours will vary through out the year, so be sure to call us at 677-4100 to confirm our current hours of operation.

We do not exchange propane tanks, we re-fill them. Be aware, if you take your tank to an exchange facility, you only get 15 lbs. of gas in the exchanged tank, and you will get a used tank - most likely a re-certified tank - that has a limited date to expiration. So if you take a brand new tank in to exchange - a tank which has 12 years before needing to be re-certified, you will get a different tank that has most likely been re-certified - and you will only get 15 lbs. of gas. So be careful.

Please note: Propane tanks need to be re-certified after 12 years from the date of manufacturing. They can not be refilled without the re-certification. You can find the date of manufacture on the collar of the tank. It will be in the form of month - year. As an example 12    16. In this example, the tank would have been manufactured in December of 2016. A tank with this date could be refilled up to December of 2028 without re-certification.

After the tank reaches its first expiration (12 years from date of manufacture) - it can be re-certified for a 5 year period. After the 5 year period, it can not be refilled until it is re-certified again. The re-certification date will have the letter "E" after it for the first re-certification. This date will be engraved in the collar of the tank as well. A re-certified date would look like this 12 16 E. A tank with this date could be refilled up to December 2021, with out being re-certified another time.
