Pool Water Volume Calculation

How do you calculate or determine how much water is in a swimming pool?

If you need to calculate the water volume in your swimming pool, you can use the following formulas. We have also included the approximate volume for some of the most common size pools for both inground and aboveground pools.

To calculate the water volume of a Square or rectangular pool, use the following formula:

Length x width x average depth x 7.5 = volume in gallons

To calculate the water volume of a round pool, use the following formula:

3.14 x Radius Squared x average depth x 7.5 = volume in gallons

Please note: the radius is equal to 1/2 the pools diameter

To calculate the volume of a kidney or irregular shaped pool, use the following formula:

.45 x (a+b) x average depth x 7.5 = volume in gallons

Please note: "a" and "b" are two cross (width) dimensions of the pool
